a 6 week workshop on collage and gelliplate printing that will provide you with a great set of tools to make your own authentic art.

Over de cursus:

Dit is een cursus voor zowel beginners als ervaren kunstenaars. We nemen een diepe duik in de wereld van collage maken en leren verschillende technieken van deze kunstvorm. Van het maken van een collage met gevonden afbeeldingen,  beeldtransfers tot het printen van ons eigen papier om deze te gebruiken in onze projecten. Alle materialen zijn bij de cursus inbegrepen. Aan het einde van deze uitgebreide cursus heb je niet alleen je gereedschapskist gevuld met technische kennis van onschatbare waarde, maar heb je ook geleerd over ontwerp, kleur en eenvoudige boekstructuren. Bijna nog waardevoller is dat je het gevoel van flow hebt ervaren bij het creatief bezig zijn en het maken van je eigen kunst en het vertrouwen dat ook jij persoonlijke en mooie kunstwerken kunt maken. About this course:

This is a course for both beginners and experienced artists. We shall take a deep dive into the world of collaging and learn different techniques of this artform. From making a collage with found images to image transfers and printing our own papers to use these in our projects. All materials are included in the course. At the end of this extensive course you will not only have filled your toolbox with invaluable technical knowledge, but also have learned about design, color and simple bookstructures. Almost more valuable is to have experienced the feel of flowstate when being creative and making your own art and an confidence that you too can make personal and beautiful pieces of art. Workshop Schedule

Week 1: Introduction into Collage

We will discuss different ways of making collages, learn the basics of collage making and get familiar with the materials. This week will be about making a composition with found images and found papers. For this weeks lesson you are welcome to bring your own found papers and images, use the magazines that are availabe in the studio or print out images.

We bespreken verschillende manieren om collages te maken, leren de basis en raken vertrouwd met de materialen. Deze week gaat over het maken van een compositie met gevonden afbeeldingen en gevonden papier. Voor deze les mag je je eigen papier en afbeeldingen meenemen, de tijdschriften in de studio gebruiken of afbeeldingen uitprinten.

Week 2: Gellipate Printing

With the use of the Gelliplate we will print our own papers to use in week 3. We shall cover basic monoprinting techniques and then branch out to some more advanced techniques with masks and stencils and build up a stack of papers to use in week 3, all the while noticing where our preferences for different colors and shapes lie.

Met behulp van de Gelliplate printen we ons eigen papier voor gebruik in week 3. We behandelen de basistechnieken van monoprinten en gaan dan verder met wat geavanceerdere technieken met stencils en sjablonen en bouwen een voorraad papier op voor gebruik in week 3, terwijl we opmerken en opletten waar onze voorkeuren voor verschillende kleuren en vormen liggen.

Week 3: Abstract Collage

In week 3 we will learn to think abstractly and make a non objective collage, learning to look at shapes without being distracted by representation and make an interesting composition based on forms and color. We shall continue to identify which forms and shapes speak to us and where our preferences lie and learn about the principles of good design and value.

In week 3 leren we abstract te denken en een niet-objectieve collage te maken, leren we naar vormen te kijken zonder afgeleid te worden door een voorstelling en maken we een interessante compositie op basis van vormen en kleur. We gaan verder met het identificeren welke vormen ons aanspreken en waar onze voorkeuren liggen en we leren over de principes van goed ontwerp en tonale waarde.

Week 4: The Artist Book

Building on the knowledge gained in week 1,2 and 3, we shall use the gelliplate to print and make our very own Artist Book using shapes and colors that speak to our soul. After printing and folding a large sheet into a book structure, we shall finish each page as a separate artpiece, using crayons, acrylic markers, found images and our printed papers.

Voortbouwend op de kennis die we in week 1, 2 en 3 hebben opgedaan, gaan we de gelliplate gebruiken om ons eigen Artist Book te bedrukken en te maken met vormen en kleuren die ons het meest aanspreken. Na het printen en vouwen van een groot vel tot een boekstructuur, werken we elke pagina af als een apart kunstwerk met kleurpotloden, acrylstiften, woodies, found-afbeeldingen en ons geprinte papier.

Week 5: Funky Shapes

In week 5 it's all about using shapes to create an abstracted still life in a funky way. Using our imagination and mixed media, we shall create a collaged still life with abstracted flower, plant or fruit shapes using mixed media.

In week 5 gaat het erom vormen te gebruiken om een geabstraheerd stilleven te creëren maar op een funky manier. Met behulp van onze verbeeldingskracht, collage en gemengde technieken maken we een stilleven van geabstraheerde bloem-, plant- of fruitvormen.

Week 6: Mini Collages

A great way to challenge ourselves is to mix up the size of the substrate. Using a piece of mounting board the size of a business card we will make a tiny collage of your own choosing, abstract or representational. We will use the small left over pieces from our printed papers and found papers.

Een geweldige manier om onszelf uit te dagen is om de grootte van de ondergrond te variëren. Met behulp van een stukje passepartout karton ter grootte van een visitekaartje maken we een kleine collage naar eigen keuze, abstract of representatief. We gebruiken de kleine restjes van ons geprinte papier en gevonden papier.

SCHEVENINGEN SHELLS

The Scheveningen shells workshop is a very accessible workshop, where even if you cannot draw or paint, you will still go home with a beautiful  result. This workshop is only given on demand in the months of October, November and December.

The oyster shells from the Scheveningen fish auction are already thoroughly cleaned, so you can start painting them right away with acrylic paint, acrylic ink and permanent markers. The end result is a beautiful natural and creative gift. It can be used as a piece of art, jewelry dish or presentation object or you can fill a whole Christmas tree with them.

No experience is necessary; it always works!
Take home your own work of art in a beautiful gift box.
During 1 workshop you will make 2 to 3 shells

De workshop Scheveningse schelpen is een zeer toegankelijke workshop, waarbij je ook als je niet kunt tekenen of schilderen, toch een met een mooi resultaat naar huis gaat. Let op: Deze workshop kun je alleen doen op aanvraag in oktober, november en december! De oesterschelpen van de Scheveningse visafslag zijn al grondig schoongemaakt, dus je kunt ze direct gaan beschilderen met acrylverf, acryl-inkt en permanent markers. Het eindresultaat is een mooi natuurlijk en creatief geschenk, of te gebruiken als sieraad, schaaltje of presentatie-object of je kunt een hele kerstboom volhangen!

GELLI PLATE PRINTING

With the Gelli Plate you can make amazing monoprints and it is also a lot of fun to do...almost addictive!

I will show you step-by-step how to create a work packed with colors, patterns and textures. A workshop for both beginners and advanced. You can layer and use stencils, use household tools to make texture, the choices are endless. You can use your printed papers to make a collage piece or you can go for a painterly approach and make a printed painting.

It is an artistic technique to apply in your own art and ideal for collage making.

Met de GelliPlate kun je geweldige monoprints maken en het is ook nog eens heel leuk om te doen...bijna verslavend!

Ik laat je stap voor stap zien hoe je een werk maakt vol kleuren, patronen en texturen. Een workshop voor zowel beginners als gevorderden. Je kunt lagen over elkaar printen en stencils gebruiken, huishoudelijk gereedschap of verpakkingsmaterialen gebruiken om textuur te maken, de keuzes zijn eindeloos. Je kunt je bedrukte papieren gebruiken om een collage te maken of je kunt voor een schilderachtige aanpak gaan en een gedrukt schilderij maken.

Het is een artistieke techniek om toe te passen in je eigen kunstvorm en ideaal voor het maken van collages.

Make your own artist's book

In this 2 hour workshop you will create your own artist book! From 1 large sheet of paper. You will print this sheet yourself using the monoprint technique with a Gelliplate. This technique is a lot of fun to do and has endless possibilities.
With all kinds of easy to find everyday things like toilet rolls, rope, bubble wrap and old packaging materials you can achieve beautiful textures and produce an interesting print.
When the sheet is completely printed I will teach you how to fold it into a little booklet.
We will then finish the pages piece by piece with acrylic markers and prints on tissue paper until they each are beautiful works of art.
At the end of the workshop you will have your own beautiful artist book to take home!
